Ferry Building

Ever since I read about the Ferry Building on Oh Happy Day's San Francisco Eats list (which we used as a Bible and went to five places on her list!), I knew I had to give it a try someday. Lucky for us, the office Kimber was working out of on Friday was only a few blocks away! The building is filled with the most decadent sweets and savory treats you'd ever set eyes on. Storefront after storefront, I found myself drooling. How does one building become filled with only the best food around? I'll definitely be visiting again.

My first macarons! Not only pretty little treats, but quite scrumptious.

Cowgirl Creamery where we got the second best grilled cheese and tomato soup I've ever had. (Oliver's Twist in Seattle still wins in my book)

Olive oil tasting. Yummers!

Outside the ferry building by the Bay Bridge.

One taco, two taco, three taco, FLOOR.

Since Kimbie lives in the Mission District, which is known for its colorful Latin flair, we thought it would be fitting and incredibly gluttonous fun to go on a taco crawl. So the gray sweatshirt gang (we all randomly chose to wear gray hoodies that night) set out to find the Mission's best taco. A little pre-crawl mapping to find the highest rated taquerias led us to:

1. El Farolito
2. La Taqueria
3. Taqueria Vallarta

We had aimed high and mapped out four, but only made it to three. The winning taqueria? Hands down, El Farolito. It was like flavor collided with spicy and landed on a corn tortilla for my enjoyment.

Somehow after tacos, we were able to crawl (literally) to Bi-Rite Creamery for an ice cream sundae. There's always room for dessert, right?

Kimberlicious

Our weekend away in San Francisco was just spectacular. We did what we set out to do: 1) spend some QT with Kimber (who we all miss dearly) and 2) eat a lot of good food. We might consider dubbing this trip "Eatfest 2K11". San Francisco is filled with the most amazing bakeries, brunch spots, taquerias and ice cream shops. After this weekend, I'm now on the market for some elastic-waisted pants!

(KarKar, you're next! Greenville is calling my name and we know you don't have a lot of time left. Still keeping my eyes open for cheap plane tix!)

Escaping to the Bay

I'm out and about, exploring the foggy city of San Francisco this weekend. A last minute trip came together to visit the one and only Kimber Schlegelmilch. Looking forward to lunch at the ferry terminal, brunch at Absinthe Brasserie, a taco crawl on Mission and who knows what else? But as you can tell, there will be a lot of eating. My motto for the weekend: If eating too much good food is wrong, I don't want to be right. C'est la vie!

P.S. Does anyone else automatically think of the Rice-A-Roni commercials when they think of San Francisco?

A letter to Kimbie

Dear Kimbie,
You've left us (tear). Off gallivanting in the bay area. Bringing them the rain, leaving us the sun (thanks, btw). You've left us a time or two before - to Germany and Egypt - but those trips were time-limited. This time you are moving there. It's so sad, yet I am incredibly excited for your new adventure. To be honest, I sometimes wish I was brave enough to do the same. Luckily, you're a very quick plane trip away. I see some wine tasting and San Fran exploring in our future.

I can't wait to hear about all of your upcoming adventures as you navigate California livin'.

Missing you already,
Erika

The ladies at Kimbie's going away party - Pink Door and Kell's. Such a great evening, as told by Stephers and Mads already.
