It's amazing what a little painter's tape and a high school dance team pom can do for you. Easiest way to win a Starbucks giftcard at our work Halloween party for Most Creative Costume.

While we're on the subject of Halloween, OH MY GOODNESS, I love trick-or-treaters. While it wasn't a factor in our house searching process, I would urge everyone to pinpoint neighborhoods that have a lot of trick-or-treaters. It's so much fun! (I may have had more fun than the kids themselves.) We flew through our first 3 bags of candy, so Joe ran to the store for back-ups, which got us through the night. Lesson learned for next year: buy tons of candy.

Gettin' Festive

It's pretty festive around our neighborhood - pumpkins, blow-up ghosts, lights and more! At our house, we have a couple pumpkins on our doorstep (Mom and I carved the one above - it took soooo long!), a decorative Halloween sign and a pumpkin on the dining room table. All of which are compliments of the Halloween Queen, the Kobester. You see, when you work at a school that goes bonkers about Halloween - parade and all - you really do embrace the holiday. She's even throwing her own Halloween party, complete with Monster Mash (mashed potatoes), black cocktails and dry ice. I can't wait to see pictures.

But I must admit, my neighbors are giving my Mom a run for her money for Halloween spirit. Look at their house!

P.S. Remember these Halloween decorations? Totally forgot about this idea until just now. Next year :)

Smashing Pumpkins

Erin says "pose" and this is what happened. Not sure why I thought a leg grab was the best option. But it only gets better from here...

Note: There were no pumpkins harmed in this photo shoot. Just a group of twenty-somethings trying to figure out how best to pose for the camera in a pumpkin patch, and for the most part, failing miserably (or succeeding - beauty is in the eye of the beholder, yeah?). Very reminiscent of last year. We'll grow up eventually, I promise.

DIY: Halloween Decorations

Just give me some cardboard, colored tissue paper and a beautiful home and I'll give you some awesome Halloween decorations! Isn't this just the coolest? This holiday decoration may even top this one. Maybe.

A little round-up for your Friday afternoon.

Joe and I are going as Peg and Al Bundy from Married with Children, hence the picture. (And today I wore my costume to work and was confused with Pebbles from the Flintstones. Where did I go wrong? I guess I need Al.)

Last night, Steph and I went to the Ingrid Michaelson concert and I love her even more now. I would recommend downloading all of her music if you don't already have it. That woman is hilarious too. Just ask the ladies behind us who laughed harder than I've heard anyone laugh in a long time.

I'm already thinking about Christmas cards because I didn't send them last year. Maybe I should try making some, using some fancy, artsy way?

He's adorable.

Another Halloween joke that Maddie reminded me of: What do you call a hot dog without anything in it? A hollow weiner! (hahaha, and yes, it's originally from Erin)

In honor of my dear friend, Erin, I'm going to share a few Halloween jokes to get you into the ghoulish season. Erin is a BIG fan of (corny) seasonal or holiday jokes since she works with little ones. I have many memories of her sharing Halloween, Christmas or Valentine's jokes and then quickly snickering after delivery. It makes me smile. Straubs, feel free to use these for your classroom!

Why do mummies have trouble keeping friends?
They're so wrapped up in themselves!

How do witches keep their hair in place while flying?
With scare spray!

What type of dog do vampire's like the best?
Bloodhounds!

Why didn't the skeleton go to prom?
Because he had no body to go with!

Sidenote: There are a lot of vampire jokes out there. Twilight really has done a number on our thinking these days.

Finally, pumpkin patch

I feel like the bunny on Alice in Wonderland because I'm in a hurry, but here goes. I have been promising you all some pumpkin patch pictures like last year. Most of these are Maddie's pictures because hers are like a bajillion times better than mine.

A few things I would like to point out:

• Hunter boots are awesome.
• Kimber is still the epitome of Fall.
• No pumpkins were harmed during the pumpkin patch extravaganza.
• I was forced into that box by Maddie. FORCED, I tell ya.
• Fall rocks.
• And so do girls who like taking rad fall photos of pumpkin patches. Like 108 on Maddie's camera. Excessive? Never!

Fifth time's a charm?

I don't know about you, but my friends and I really like photo opps. One of the "poses" we seem to try often, maybe due to the challenge, is a jumping photo.

It's a science. You all have to jump at the exact same time (which means you have to determine if you jump on "3" or right after), the person taking the picture has to figure out what kind of delay they are working with on the camera because none of us can really jump high (especially when wearing boots), and you have to resist from falling over in laughter.

In the end, you get a lot of great photos. I hope you enjoy them (at the expense of us looking ridiculous)!

We still didn't get a high jump, but it works :)

He thinks he's a puppy

This weekend we pumpkin patched it up and it was glorious. (Post to follow soon!) After the various pumpkin tossing, photo opping and apple cider drinkin', we went to Erin's house for white chicken chili and a little magic. Practical Magic to be exact.

During the movie, Zeke decided he needed some girly time and jumped right up and made himself comfortable. It was the cutest thing ever. He's probably what you'd call a very large "teen" dog, but still thinks he's a puppy. It's adorable.

Owls

Halloween notecard on Etsy

Owls have gained A LOT of popularity in the last few years. I've particularly noticed since the owl is one of the symbols of my sorority. I remember a time when the only owl you can find was at Goodwill or an old lady's garage sale and believe me, it was a major score if you did. Now they're everywhere. They are pretty cute little creatures if you ask me.

Lessons Learned this Halloween

1. Cut armholes if your costume involves wearing a box. (Pictures to come. I just left my camera at Holden's. And I think I also left my cupcake carrier.)
2. Appletinis + white rug = art?
3. I need more martini glasses. It's just not right to serve fun, festive cocktails in Guinness glasses.
4. If your creepcakes don't turn out like the pictures, remedy the situation with candy decorations that Straube once used for her cupcakes. Instant success.
5. The day after Halloween is the best day to be on Facebook. So many great pictures to browse!
6. Allow for at least 5 minutes to listen to Ugly Betty's voicemail. Betty has a new found appreciation for women who wear high heels and thinks that just about everything is ammmmmaaaaazzzzzing.
7. Thank you daylight savings for giving me an extra hour of much-needed sleep.

Costume Craze

It's not even Halloween and there are a few costumes that I've seen that are topping the charts.

(p.s. i'm still not set on a costume - still have some ideas floating around, but would take suggestions!)

So this one is from last year, but I think it was super creative.

Autumn and Ryan went as Facebook profiles:

Autumn: Emo Girl who was interested in expressing her feelings and freeing Tibet.

Ryan: Drunk Sorority Girl from WSU - playing on every stereotype possible.

(ironically, someone spilled on this lovely profile and caused some smearage, but it kind of made it authentic.

I read this blog sometimes and I think this is so cute! Such a great family costume idea. Check it out - there are even more pictures on the blog.

(p.s. the baby's name is actually Oscar! and he's super cute...)

Jessie's dog, Birdie, is going as a banana!

I got a sneak peak and had to snap a pic with my cell phone.

(I think my mom's puppies have their own little costumes as well...My mom loves Halloween. Like loves, loves.)

As you can see, Kenny is very comfortable with his sexuality.
