The Sunriver Finale

There were many a cheers, relaxing by the fire, strolling through Bend, a trip to the Owl's Nest, delicious homemade meals, snowblasting on a sunny day, snow boots a plenty, and a beer to top it off. Sunriver, I love you.

Now we're all looking forward to Chelanigans!

Downtown Bend

Because we can't stray from tradition too much during our Sunriver trip, we spent one day casually roaming the streets of the little town of Bend. We love us some Bend. It's quaint and has cute little restaurants and shops, so what's not to love? From happy hour cocktails at Tart to dinner at Common Table (a cool nonprofit restaurant that donates all proceeds to the community and is run by volunteers!), the day was exactly what we hoped for.

Sunriver: Snowblasting

Ok, ok, it's really called the Snowblast Tubing Park, but I truly believe we should all call tubing, snowblasting. Why? Simple math. Snow + having a blast = snowblasting. At any rate, you start with a few glorious minutes of relaxing on your tube as the rope tow brings you to the top, then you jump off and go down a GIANT hill, breaking the sound barrier within seconds! I'm not even kidding people, we created some sonic booms on our tubes, especially when we went down FOUR AT A TIME. So if you ever find yourself at Mt. Bachelor, heed this advice: go snowblasting. It's breathtaking (literally and figuratively - at times you go so fast that you can't catch your breath due to the wind resistance!).

What you can't really see in this picture is that the snowblasting hills are at about an 85 degree angle. I don't lie. And that hay? That's to make you slow you at the end, so you don't launch into outerspace or something.

Homebound

Sunriver, as usual, was magical. It was hard to come home, but at least we had the chance to enjoy the beautiful Central Oregon scenery on the car ride home. (It was way too dark on our way down.) Details to come, but I will say this: snowblasting (AKA tubing) is awesome and so are my girlfriends. Both make me smile.

Suits and Boots

The weekend notoriously known for suits and boots*, Goody's candy, skiing or sledding, aimlessly exploring Bend, OR, bad (bad!) chick flicks**, homemade breakfast and dinners, quality girl time - well, that weekend is upon us. Sunriver or bust!

A note to the Doherty's: We don't thank you enough for letting us stay at your place each and every year. It's one of my favorite weekends of the year. So thank you!

*An annual tradition in which we put on our bathing suits and snow boots and high tail it to the hot tub across the complex.
**Just so you understand the caliber of bad movies we pick - if it features Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez, we have a winner. Just bad. But usually quite comical.

Sunriver 2K11

Sunriver was a blast because...

We went skiing/boarding (as I posted yesterday)

We went wedding dress shopping. Why? Because AUTUMN IS ENGAGED! (Yay!) She looked gorgeous in so many of the dresses, but we may have found a winner. It looks like this. (Ok, not really, but it's very pretty.)

We went on snow walks while linking arms.

We hung out in the Sunriver mall area.

And may have spent way too much time at Goody's eating candy, drinking Green River sodas, Cherry Coke floats and malts.

Goody's was hoppin'. Maddie said that it would make Amelia (her sister) happy. The glory days of Sunriver in the 90s will return after all. (Apparently the popularity of Sunriver has dwindled over the years, but we think it's making a comeback!)

We drank really good beer at Deschutes Brewery. My fave was called Giraffe on Ice Skates. Yum.

We went to the Owl's Nest Pub to hang out with old people. There aren't too many young people chillin' there.

We laughed. And Kimber made Karen's hair look awesome. Look at her!

We smiled.

And quite possibly the best part, we danced. 7 20-something girls with 4 senior citizens. Mostly the 7 girls. It was a blast, especially when they played Shakira.

Overall, amazing trip. I'd like to go back. Now. Ladies?

Snowy Awesomeness

I can't begin to explain how awesome last weekend was.

Maddie explained some of the reasons here.

I will give my little debrief via pictures because I think it appropriately captures the shear awesomeness of the weekend.

1. "Omigod, I totally loved Freddie Prinze Jr. in highschool. I decoupaged his face on my retainer case."
2. "Oh, no! I think I'm a flower!" (For context, here's what we were talking about.)
3. "He asked me if I was 145 and I thought he was guessing my weight or something and I was like, really?! Then I realized he was asking about my snowboard size..."
4. "Wait, the Indigo Girls are lesbians? I totally thought they were sisters!"

This is just a sampling of the fun and crazy conversations that make me giggle.

The Sunriver Ladies

Sunriver bound!

I am counting the minutes until I head out for a long weekend in Sunriver! I've been pumped about this for a long time now, so I can't believe it's already here.

Maddie, Autumn, Erin, Stepanie, Karen, Lizzie and I are planning on having the time of our lives. (Time of our lives means: snowboarding/skiing, sleeping in, eating homemade spaghetti, watching girly movies, making brunch, dancing at the Owl's Nest with old ladies, hot tubbing, etc.)

This is the second annual trip, but it'll be my first since I had to work the same weekend last year. Check back next week for the amazingness of the trip captured on camera! (Possibly even one of Straube cuddling Karen? I hear she likes to cuddle on this trip...)
