Our Date-a-Versary

We hit the four year milestone back in November and even though we have a new "official" anniversary, we decided that we'll continue to celebrate our Date-a-Versary for years to come. Because really, who doesn't like a good excuse to make a really nice dinner and open a nice bottle of red wine? And maybe if I'm lucky, the flowers will continue too :)

I love you, Joe!

Flowers

A few weeks back, I had the gardening itch. So I went to the store and picked up a few plants to spruce up our front porch and backyard deck. There's something about a bright, colorful flower that can bring a smile to your face, don't you think? My favorites of the group are the dahlia (wedding flowers!) and ranunculus. I wanted to bring a white anemone home too, but no such luck. Maybe on the next flower shop visit!

What is your favorite flower to grow?

P.S. The flowers must be happy with all this SUN today. Is summer here to stay?! Please say yes.

Ballard Market Flowers

Maddie and I spent more time than I'd care to admit at one of the flower booths at the Ballard Market this Sunday. We were completely enamored by one of the women who works there - creation after creation, her bouquets were like pieces of art. We'd watch and say, "ok, let's see what her next one looks like..." Again and again. I honestly thought they might call security on us because we were just standing there, staring.

From the beginning, I fell in love with this $10 bright bouquet filled with some of my favorite colors, and finally made the decision to take it home. (In fact, they remind me of this beautiful bouquet that I hope to one day emulate.) Now I can't help but smile every time I get a whiff of the sweet floral smell and glance over at them perched on our dining room table. Summer, don't leave us. Pretty, please?

Flower Power

Yep, this is one of our bathrooms. It's a beauty, huh? I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I've heard, "Never, EVER change this bathroom" when people see our flower power bathroom. And to be honest, changing it is at the very, very bottom of my list of home projects. In fact, I may just keep it like this for the long haul. Granted, if it were our everyday bathroom, then I'd be singing a different tune. But this bathroom is in tucked away in the unfinished basement and will likely just be, well, let's just call it what it is, an "emergency bathroom."

Please note the striped wallpaper too. That is what covers the other wall - you know because crazy, bright flowers and stripes go so well together.

Please also note: this is not the only room with red floors. Oh don't you worry, I'll get to that later.

Tulips

As a proud Skagit Valley native, I’ll never stop loving tulips. Even though they literally bring OVER A MILLION wandering tourists, crowding the streets of Burlington and Mount Vernon during the Tulip Festival, I hold no grudge against the pretty things. They can’t help that they’re beautiful.

To support the Skagit Valley farmers, I bought a bouquet for Easter and they remind me of home, which in turn makes me smile. I’d have to say that they are one of my faves.

What are some of your fave flowers?

Pike Place Market

To pass the time on a rainy afternoon this weekend, Autumn and I went to Pike Place Market to hunt for pussy willows for her wedding. (The end product for how they'll be used is still TBD, but I think we have some good ideas!) It was a successful, in-and-out trip, but it reminded me of how beautiful the market's flowers are. And better yet, how cheap they are! A bright bouquet of flowers can always bring a smile to my face. I need to hit up the market more often. Wanna join me?

My inner wedding planner

I'm happy that Autumn is tapping my inner wedding planner. Pretty dresses, beautiful venues, fun flowers, mechanical bull and more. (Ok, no mechanical bull at the wedding, but wouldn't that be funny?) After our run last night, Maddie, Autumn and I did a little inspiration searching. She's thinking yellow and grey, which automatically made me think of yellow pom pom flowers. And then we came upon this. Isn't it simple, funky and classy all in one? I love it.

The smell of flowers

My birthday was over 20 days ago and I can't seem to let go of the flowers (now drooping and dead) that Joe gave me. They still smell amazing! It's such a treat to come into your apartment to the smell of flowers, right? Even if they are no longer, well, pretty.

The bouquet in my office from Olita keeps dwindling down too. Only the long-lasting flowers still stand. The bouquet has definitely seen better days.

Or the pot of roses on my porch last year that took forever to throw away because they were CLEARLY dead. Oh wait, that pot is still out there too. Still rockin' the dead plant. I should probably do something about that too.

Flowers brighten my day

I bought myself some fresh flowers at the Ballard Farmer's Market on Sunday and they really brighten my day when I get home, especially after a stressful week like this one. Oh well, one day to go!

I love flowers

I received some beautiful flowers today for my desk!
Sort of like these, but mix in some white roses.

(I didn't even drop a hint like I did here once,
but really, I do like flowers.)

Green Thumb Peterson

Remember when I told you about my secret garden?

It looked a little like this.

Well, shaZZZZAAAAMMM! Check out how it looks today. (P.S. Like my shadow?)

Pretty, pretty flowers.

I really like flowers. Consider that a hint fellas.
